Sand and Sea #7

Friday, July 18, 2025 | Sand and Sea Lessons

Lesson #7

Next class is Instrument Day! You and your child can bring an instrument and show it off for us! If you actually play an instrument, we'd love to see and hear it! Class may be a little longer than usual.

I have loved getting to know all of you and your sweet kiddos better these past few weeks. You’re all Adorable! It would be so fun to continue the good times in one of my Sound Beginnings classes this fall: White Horses! I have classes available on Tuesdays @ 10:00am and 6:00pm, Wednesdays @ 10:00am, and Thursdays @ 9:00am. I can likely add another class if requested. I’ll be sending you a registration email so you can get signed up!

Please text and let me know what instrument you will be sharing next time!

Learning to recognize and communicate our emotions is very healthy for children and adults! Talk about how you feel, why you feel that way, and know that however you feel, “that’s all right by me.” We often don’t get to choose our emotions – we accept them and choose how to act knowing how we feel. And sometimes, we CAN choose our emotions by choosing what we focus on – we can think about the happy parts more than the sad parts. Knowing how to identify and express their emotions helps your children problem solve and live healthily with others.

Our transition activity in class allows us to hear and feel how a segment of time can be divided into equal units we refer to as rhythm. Processing and internalizing rhythmic division will help children process fractional division in math.

Like each person’s voice has its own unique sound, each musical instrument has a distinct sound known as timbre (TAM-ber). Listening to instrumental solos helps children develop their ability to distinguish the timbre of individual instruments.

Optional home fun activity: Cut out and build your own sandcastle on page 17 of your workbook.  You can keep the pieces and play as often as you want – or you can glue it to another paper for a lovely Sand and Sea scene. If you'd like them laminated, bring them with you next week (cut out) and I can laminate them for you. (Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)

Don’t you love “A You’re Adorable?” Here is another fun alphabet song that signs letters!

Sound Beginnings is education through musical play! It prepares children for success in Kindergarten and Let’s Play Music. Sound beginnings provides research-based elements that stimulate growth in the areas particularly crucial to the development of the young child. These elements make up the foundation of the Sound Beginnings curriculum.  Here is just one:

Research has shown that singing improves reading. Our classes prepare children for kindergarten by exploring concepts and skills such as name recognition, alphabet and phonetic awareness, counting, identifying colors, rhyming, telling time, and sequencing.
